Worship

We acknowledge and celebrate Christ as Lord of all. He is Lord of structures, family, work, and the social order. We acknowledge and converse frequently within a Christian context about contemporary issues that face our church, our denomination, and society. We respect one another and trust that each member is seeking to be faithful to Jesus Christ, however diverse the position. We are a church that is diverse in opinion, but united in Christ.

The Bible functions authoritatively in the life of our church. Scripture is subordinate to Jesus Christ, who is the living Word of God. We understand all Scripture through Jesus Christ, who illuminates that which is otherwise obscure. His radical love and acceptance of all people is the measure through which we read all parts of Scripture, which tests our actions to determine if our witness is faithful, our love is broad, and our corporate life is adequately inclusive. As we read the Bible prayerfully, patiently, and corporately, we trust that the Holy Spirit will open our minds to comprehend and obey God’s will.
